Experimental Fundamentals
Creativity and Technique: an open level weekly class for professional dancers and movement enthusiasts

The class includes a lively warm up incorporating ballet, yoga, and pilates to strengthen the body's core and hone technique, a modern combination to expand performance quality and muscle memory, improvisation and partnering to cultivate community and imagination, and composition to encourage individual creativity. Each week, the teaching choreographer picks a theme and guides the class through the warm-up with this focus. The combination of the week reflects the theme as does the partnering, composition, and improvisational exercises. Examples of themes include: rhythm, suspension, focus, range of motion, props, quality, costume, release, and direction. Experimental Fundamentals is different from a typical studio class in that the students take an active role in their learning by contributing their creative ideas and movements to the class.
