Notes in Motion's Family Programs offer a complete performance and learning experience for the entire family to experience together. Programs include performance, group discussion, small group work, critical feedback, work sharing, work time, props, costumes, live and recorded music, and writing exercises. Family programs can be linked to community goals and social issues or organize around the process of making dance theatre. Some longer family programs conclude with an original performance presentation created by program participants.

Family Day is a special family program created by Notes in Motion and is typically held one or more times throughout the year. It begins with a performance of Notes in Motion’s Dances are Built from Movement Ideas, a 45-minute interactive performance in which the Education Ensemble creates an original dance with the audience's help. Children come up on stage and contribute movements that become part of the final product. Following the performance, the audience and performers break into three workshop groups: drama, dance, and visual art. Each group builds on themes from the performance with hands-on exercises, games, and other activities. Family Day concludes with snacks and special prizes.

This year, two Family Day events were held at the Philip Coltoff Center at Greenwich Village.
